Certificate Course in Selected Advances in Management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (CCSAM-T1DM)

Description

Globally, there are an estimated 9.5 million people living with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), and the incidence is increasing by 3-4% per year. Lower‑income regions face a disproportionate burden due to rising incidence and limited access to timely diagnosis.

India has almost one million people living with T1DM across all age groups, including around 250,000 children and adolescents. The management of T1DM in India is further complicated by late diagnosis, with 30-50% children presenting with diabetic ketoacidosis.

Physicians in India often struggle with managing T1DM, as many cases remain undiagnosed until complications arise. In addition, access to advanced diabetes technologies such as CGM and insulin pumps remains limited, creating major challenges in achieving optimal glycemic control.

Chellaram Diabetes Institute has developed a specialized online certification course designed to equip physicians with a comprehensive understanding of T1DM, particularly highlighting the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of T1DM.

The first two modules cover the essential introductory aspects of T1DM, and the diagnosis, emphasizing the practical utility and interpretation of autoantibody testing. The subsequent module covers modern insulin therapy, including regimen selection and titration strategies tailored for diverse patient needs.

The next two modules include advanced technologies, viz. continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), highlighting how these tools are transforming real-world T1DM management. The final module explores emerging horizons in immunotherapy and beta‑cell preservation, offering an overview of current research and future possibilities. A bonus module on automation in insulin delivery (AID) has also been included at the end.

This structured, clinically relevant course empowers physicians to deliver comprehensive, up‑to‑date, and technology-enabled care to patients of T1DM.
