The Chellaram Foundation

Lokumal Kishinchand Chellaram
(1915 – 2002)

The Chellaram Foundation is a public charitable organization established in 2008 in memory of Late Kishinchand Chellaram and Late Bhai Lokumal Kishinchand Chellaram.

Mr. Lokumal Chellaram was the Chairman of the Group for over fifty years from 1951 to 2002 and consolidated and expanded the business empire founded in 1916 by his father Kishinchand Chellaram.

He founded the Lokumal Kishinchand Charity Trust in 1980 in India. His generosity and philanthropy were exemplary, as were his characteristics of integrity and honor. His many acts of charity and philanthropy came from the heart and a deep felt sense of spirituality. Indeed, his spirituality led him to read and then to circulate books in an effort to spread spiritual knowledge. Mr Lokumal also had a great love of music.

Mr Lokumal embodied a blend of inherent entrepreneurship and the noble characteristics of trust in God. He was a rare breed of businessman and philanthropist with an innate capacity to honor life. Mr. Lokumal sincerely believed that work was worship, an offering to God and believed “that always do your best; what you plant now, you will harvest later”.

Chellaram Diabetes Institute has been established by his son Mr. Lal Lokumal Chellaram as a philanthropic organization and he sincerely hopes that the Institute will do justice to his father’s vision.

The Foundation focuses on Public Health, Education and Research oriented programs and is involved in various projects related to Diabetes including:
