Certificate Course in Basic Principles of Nutrition Therapy in Diabetes (CCBPNTD) is a unique course that covers all the important topics related to nutrition from the point of view of a patient of diabetes in a simplified manner.

While diet and lifestyle modification are the mainstay in the management of diabetes, despite there being a range of treatments available to treat diabetes, they are often not put into practice owing to a lack of knowledge, or various prevalent misconceptions about diet in diabetes.

This course will help you get a good grasp of the important concepts in nutrition as they relate to diabetes.
You will also learn some of the practical aspects related to nutrition in diabetes, so that you are motivated to try out these things for themselves.
You will learn different types of diet in diabetes, and also some of the interesting concepts that are evolving in this area.

The course has been designed in the form of compact modules, which include a mix of interactive material, lecture videos, case studies, demonstrative videos and activities.
There is a post-test after each module to assess the learning progress.
The entire course can be completed in about six to eight hours.
The online format allows for learning at one’s own pace, across multiple formats like desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile.

You can earn a Certificate from the CDI E-Learning Academy in a short time by going through the entire course content and clearing the Exit Exam at the end of the course.

The course has been designed by expert faculty at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune, under the leadership of the renowned dietary expert – Dr. Geeta Dharmatti (MSc – Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, PhD, RD).

The course duration is around six to eight hours. However, you need not do the entire course in one go! You can complete the course anytime within three months of the date of enrolment as per your convenience.

  • How to I enroll for the course?

To enroll for the course, you will first have to register on the CDI E-Learning Academy portal, by clicking on https://cdiacademy.cdi.org.in/

This is a simple process that takes just a few minutes.

Then, select the course and add to cart.

Following this, go to the cart, and make pay the course fees through the online payment gateway.

Once, the payment is confirmed, the course will be active, and you can access the content.

  • What If I am unable to make the online payment of fees? Whom should I contact if I am not able to open/access the course?

  • How will the assessments be done for the course?

There will be a post-test assessment in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs) after each module. There will be five questions in the post-test for every module. You will need to answer at least four of the questions correctly for the module to be marked as completed. There is no need to worry though, as you can complete the post-test in multiple attempts.

At the end of the course, there will be an Exit Exam consisting of 20 MCQs derived from the entire course. You will need to score at least 50% in the Exit Exam in order to obtain the Course Completion Certificate. You will get three attempts at clearing the Exit Exam.

As mentioned above, after you complete the entire course and clear the Exit Exam, you will be eligible for obtaining the Course Completion Certificate. The Certificate will be generated automatically in the Learning Management System, and you can download a soft copy of the same for your use.

COURSE FACULTY

Dr. Geeta Dharmatti

MSc (Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics), PhD, RD

Dr. Geeta Dharmatti is Nutrition Adviser at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from the Nagpur University where she won the Gold Medal for topping her MSc Examinations. She also holds a Doctoral Degree in this field.

She is a Registered Dietician and topped the Special RD Examination by IDA board in 2012.

She is the Chief Nutrigenomic Counselor of GeneSupport.

She also serves as Director of Geeta Nutriheal, a Nutrition Services Consultancy, and is an Executive Member of the Indian Dietetic Association.

Her areas of expertise include critical care, bariatric, nutrigenomics, wellness and lifestyle management.

Dr. Shailesh R. Deshpande

MD (Preventive and Social Medicine)

Dr. Shailesh Deshpande heads the Education Department at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune. He is involved in the design and conduction of bespoke training programs for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

He has vast experience of working in the non-government sector in India on diverse community health and related issues, and has also worked with the Government of Maharashtra in the State Health Systems Resource Centre, Pune.

He has been a teacher at the B. J. Medical College, Pune and at the Symbiosis International University, Pune. He has also been visiting faculty at the Savitribai Phule Pune University and the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.

He has several publications in indexed journals to his credit.

Dr. A. G. Unnikrishnan

MD, DM (Endocrinology), DNB, MNAMS

 

Dr A. G. Unnikrishnan is an Endocrinologist and CEO of Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune. He heads clinical care, research, education, and also oversees a philanthropic rural diabetes care program at the Institute.

He has published the largest multicenter study of subjects with pancreatitis and pancreatic diabetes

worldwide, in addition to his other publications. He is also the former Editor-in-Chief and Founder Editor of the Journal of Thyroid Research and Practice. He has been the Executive Editor of the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has more than 200 publications in indexed journals.

He has received the Subash Mukherjee Oration award of the Endocrine Society of India, and the Srivastava Award of the RSSDI (India’s largest Diabetes Society) for his contribution to diabetes in India. He has also received the Jacob Memorial Prize for the best patient care awarded by the Christian Medical College, Vellore, in 1998. He received the Fellowship Award of the RSSDI in 2017, and the Dr. Sam GP Moses oration award by the Diabetes Association of India in 2018.

Ms. Rutuja Mahajan

MSc (Food Science and Nutrition), Certified Diabetes Educator

Ms. Rutuja Mahajan is a Clinical Nutritionist at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune.

She has around 20 years of experience as a Clinical Nutritionist.

She has made presentations in sessions at the International Diabetes Summit, hosted by the Chellaram Diabetes Institute.

One of her research areas includes studying the effect of a low calorie diet in obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Besides, she has been working as a diet counsellor in clinical research at the institute.

She regularly contributes nutrition related articles to the in-house magazine – Diabetes Health, and is also involved in the development of academic courses.

Ms. Parita Gajjar

MSc (Food Science and Nutrition), Certified Diabetes Educator, Dip. Sports Nutrition, UGC-NET

Ms. Parita Gajjar is a Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at the Chellaram Diabetes Institute, Pune.

She has prior experience of working with the Department of Health and Family Welfare as well as UNICEF under the State Nutrition Cell, Gujarat.

Her MSc research was published in the International Journal of Biological and Medical Research.

She was awarded in the Best Paper category at the National Conference – “Women in 21st Century: Working towards Empowerment for Research in Anaemia Prevalence in Adolescent Girls”.
